Muhammad: "I don't think what I'm doing right now is vital to the survival of the species" But he says his work will be important, certainly in a few decades from now. The kind of technologies that we're developing today will be foundational for synthetic biology and other fields such as biotechnology. He thinks it's unclear whether things like climate science or climate change will be impacted by synthetic biology. And on the one hand, you have artificial intelligence creating machines that are very intelligent. On the other hand, bioengineering and biotechnology may allow humans to either sort of integrate with machines or sort of be augmented with machines.
