I grew up during a time of economic and technological reforms in the 80s. My father tried to infuse me with a belief that it's sexy for a girl to be a scientist because no political movement can touch you. One teacher had a deeper influence on me, my high school math teacher. He was a rare teacher who inspired my curiosity rather than stifled it. His passion for math was infectious. At first, I didn't like engineering because it was too concrete and hands-on. It felt like a blue-collar job, but I was grateful to become an engineer.It made me feel grounded, useful, and problem-solving was addictive.
