Freud's Definition of the Uncanny
The first usage of the word in English. Originally Scottish and Northern, it means mischievous, malicious. It's becoming common to talk about the uncanny and like mysteriousness and weirdness. And then also these senses of it being like unsafe and dangerous,. But it is this like this insistence on home and the familiar that the word doesn't have naturally.
