The War on Terrorism in Africa and the Horn of Africa
A 2019 report released by the Africa Center for Strategic Studies found that terrorist activity doubled from 2012 to 2018. The number of countries experiencing attacks increased by 960% during that time period. There was a 10-fold increase in violent events jumping from 288 incidents in 2009 to 3,050 incidents in 2018. And we can look at the various instances from Boko Haram's growth in Nigeria to Al-Shabaab's territorial advancement across Somalia.
