Vietnamese of all sides have done very much exactly the same processes of exclusion, forgetting, erasure, self-privilegying. But so did the Americans. Both of these things can exist at the same time, but in an either-or universe, they don't. It's a challenging concept, one with huge implications for national identity, both Vietnamese and American.
