The Wreckage of Judge Proctor's Windmill

The pilot of the ship is supposed to have been the only one aboard, and while his remains were badly disfigured, enough of the original has been picked up to show that he was not an inhabitant of this world. Decades later, a guy named brawley oates takes over the land where the well is located, and he says, ok, abina cleaned the debris out because i want to be able to use the well water. And then later he developed a pretty serious case of arthuritis. He went to his grave believing that the water in the well was contaminated by wreckage from the stars, and that that's what gave him arthritus.
