How to Make Charts for the Virgin Islands
When you first got to the Caribbean, it was almost impossible to buy charts. So I would get a phone call through to them or I'd get a telegram through and tell them what charts I needed. But that was a difficult operation. And as I explored, I realized that not only were the charts from ancient surveys but they're very poorly broken up in the fact that like the US chart of the Virgin Islands stopped in the middle of Virgin Gorda. Anigato was terror in Kanjinita unless you managed to hold a British Admiralty chart. That's where an awful lot of my information regarding tides and sailing into harbors came from.
