I like to always begin by acknowledging that I'm a white settler here on the Laquanian territory where I live in Victoria BC and beginning in that way helps to both situate me and put me in a context of colonization. This is important to reckon with just as a citizen of the world but I think it's relevant for suicide prevention as well because one of the things I'm trying to do is to think more deeply about suicide through a broader socio-political cultural lens rather than just through a narrow biomedical framing.
