Eisenhower's Speech at the UN and the American Atomic Energy Commission
Eisenhower's speech seemed to work from a public relations perspective. But this is still with a backdrop of massive arms buildup throughout the course of the 1950s on both sides of the Iron Curtain. While Eisenhower was out giving speeches about the peaceful potential of nuclear power, the US was building bigger and scarier nuclear weapons.
