Navigating in Space

The strength of our magnetic field is about one gaus riht. A compass only works if there's a strong enough magnetic field that it can align to. And that works on the earth, but not out in space. The problem with navigating in space is that the magnetic field flips irregularly every few hundred or few thousand light years. So magnetism is not a good guide to navigating in space.
