The Legend of Jack Fiddler

Jack Fiddler was a Cree Indian who lived in the far western corner of Ontario, Canada. He claimed to have defeated 14 Wendigos over his lifetime and became their only defense against them. In 1905 he and his brother Joseph were accused of killing Jack's daughter-in-law by hanging her from a tree with a rope. The trial ended in acquittals for both men but not before it emerged that they had been killed out of mercy.
