Paleocons reject the idea that american national identity can be reduced to a set of ideas. They think there is something about the cultural, and indeed ethnic, a identity of the people in a particular place in a particular time that made this regime good and functional. The atheistic threat of communism also heightened the the impulse towards coalition with traditionalists.
