It is often reported that sam calls his uncle, james schwartzmann, who is a lawyer. But at least according to gavin fish's reporting, it was james who called sam. Sam seems to have reached out to these people before,. according to the official time line, he even knew that anything had happened to ellen. That tells me there's a part of the story, whatever it is that we are not being told.
