The Role of Government in Civil Rights
Roland Martin: I think there's a role for government in protecting rights available. But when you create incentives, whether it's civil rights legislation or the like where blacks are required to hire more black people, that creates dependency from those who are being forced to enforce these kinds of things. There could even be a conversation about as it relates to the issues of education with the Brown and Board of Education deal. That was a constitutional deal. Yes, school should have been desegregated. We can talk about reparations debate,. but one of the things that's not talked about is what happened to all of those black teachers who were teaching in black communities? Where did they now go?
