Playing Chicken

In English, we actually accompany that expression often with the sound of a chicken. I don't know why chickens are associated with not having courage and being frightened. But if you are a chicken, then you are afraid or frightened of doing something. If you play chicken, this is very common with children, younger kids, then you do a dangerous game. You play a dangerous game in order to discover who is the bravest in the group.
