The Task of the Translator

When you are slating a book of poetry, you are ultimately translating a work of art. When you translate a great novel, that is art. Even when you're translating a non fiction, was the author not poetically or artistically trying to weave together ideas into a tapestry? No poem is intended for the reader. No picture for the beholder. No symphony for the listener. And what he's getting at is that we don't necessarily create works of art with the audience and mind nor does a work ofArt need an audience to be considered a work of Art.
