The Dark Night of the Soul
This is one of my favourite chapters in genesis, even though it's one we seldom spend much time on. I hinted earlier about esau as an older brother that offended by the younger brother. And to me, i see this as a glorious twist on the parable of the prodigal son. The sun has risen upon him. Oh, there's beautiful, poetic symmetry here. Jacob's ladder on one of it the dark night, and now returning from this round trip voyage with the sun rising upon him. 33 then opens with this sunrise.
