Under the hood, it relies on more sparse computed and hence has been a very natural fit for the ipu. The most obvious example of sparse datus structures is molecules. Molecules very rarely arrange themselves into convenient lines or squares. It's also a case that useful molecules are often not very big. They can have terrific complexity of behavior and still be quite small.
