The next study adds some additional value to our discussion for a number of different reasons. It was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data on over 65,000 patients. In their methods, they defined an event as pulmonary aspiration if one, gastric contents, bilious fluids, or other non-respiratory secretions were suctioned from the trachea.
