The Unprecedented Depopulation of an Entire Continent
Europe had ceased to reproduce itself. There was not a single member state of this newly expanded European Union that had a replacement level total fertility rate generally figured to be 2.1 children per woman during the course of her childbearing years. By 2050, 60% of Italians will not know from personal experience what a brother, a sister, an aunt, an uncle or a cousin is. This unprecedented depopulation of an entire continent might not have something to do with each other.
