Deontology and Consequentialism
Deontology and consequentialism are two very broad, general, competing categories for how we should look at whether human action is right or wrong. Most people fall somewhere in between these two camps. Both of them have their strengths and weaknesses. But the ultimate point is that when trying to decide whether something is right orwrong, a deontologist is going to look at the actions themselves, rather than the consequences of those actions. And because of this, the intention that some one had behind an action that they just did usually plays a key role in how a deontologists perceives that action.
