The Cartoon Dog, the Hat Drinking Coffee With the House Burning

I feel like 2020 can be summed up as that meme of the cartoon dog, the hat drinking coffee with the house burning. And I don't know if legitimacy has fluctuated all this much throughout American history,. But if it had gotten down to this point, I wonder if there's a way to get it back. There may be still such a rich country that we can actually withstand vastly more pain than we thought.
