The X-Men have access to something very similar on their living mutant paradise island of Crocoa where your consciousness can be transferred into another version of your body and then you just continue. What they believe is that immortality can only be achieved via this advanced cloning technique. However, Rayl also talks about cloning criminals who have died in order to put them on trial from beyond the grave. He name checked both Hitler and the 9 11 terrorists as people that if he has his way, he will bring back from the dead and like put on trial for their crimes.
