The Importance of Grace
Both grace and faith are gifts from God. You don't merit any sacraments because sacraments are instruments of grace. The graces we merit for others are only because they're in grace. Think of it as a member of the body of Christ. That dude over there is a finger and I'm a hand. Well, I can merit for him. But if you cut him off from the body ofChrist, then we can no longer merit. We have to pray and God must bring them to repentance.
