The Neurotoxic Effects of Quinilinic Acid
When quinilinic acid crosses the blood brain barrier, it is more likely to be converted into serotonin and not go down the chinauronan pathway. Now keep in mind that you've got to look at this conversion outside of the brain and then there's conversion within the brain. The reason it's neurotoxic is because it is an NMDA receptor agonist. And due to this, all this excitotoxicity and excitability within the cells, that's heavily linked to a lot of psychiatric disorders,. major depressive disorder, ALS, Parkinson's disease, and like way more.
