A wealthy people live longer than impoverished people, and they do it for a whole host of reasons. The ones eating the highest carb diets might have been the poorest individuals in their survey. And that meant that they were predisposed to be obese and diabetic to begin with. Some nurses are single mothers raising five children by themselves; some nurses are married to the ceos of major operations. But if they do, then their socio economic status is going to be largely, or at least partly, determined by their husbands positions.
