The Importance of John Quincy Adams
The South had prevented petitions from being taken seriously in the Congress of the United States. John Quincy Adams was a principled antagonist to slavery, but he didn't grandstand and give speeches against slavery. He very thoughtfully fought on this one front about democratic process.
