The Importance of Model Organisms in Medicine
During the molecular revolution that started in the 1950s, Kroeg's and others' perspectives on model organisms were gradually replaced by explicitly genetic perspectives. From mice we've learned a lot about components of the immune system such as the major histogram matabiliy complex T cell receptors. Most mouse tumors tend to originate in an altogether different tissue layer than human tumors. Our bodies are roughly 2,500 times larger than mouse bodies.
