The Importance of Water in La Paz County

In 1986, Phoenix bought 20 square miles of farmland in La Paz County. The city wanted it as a backup water supply for the future. In 2012, that plan was abandoned when Phoenix decided to sell its own groundwater. IFC is now drilling deeper wells and leasing some land to farming company Aldara. What this all means isPhoenix's once public water supply is no longer staying in Arizona. It's being shipped overseas in the form of hay.
