I live in the Cotswolds. Now that's Gloucestershire, isn't it? If you dig your back garden long enough, you will dig up some Roman remains. You can buy Roman pennies for a dollar or two each at flea markets. I understand when people were going to go into a town, they would bury their coins outside before they went in. And then if they did get knocked off, their coins would stay there for 2,000 years until somebody with a metal detector finds them. That seems to have happened through the ages, yes.
