Back in the 19 fifties, at the height of the cold war, the us. sent up spy satellites to take pictures from space. Scientists are using those sameb and white images to identify how forests in romania have changed in the last 70 years. By comparing them to modern satellite images, what they're able to do is spot very old forests with valuable, established eco systems. And because the pictures from these spy satellites cover a lot of the globe, they hope they can use the technique to stop deforestation.
