The Psychological Function of Addiction

The attractiveness of the respective substances depending on what it is unconsciously used for. Someone who seeks reassurance is more likely to turn to cannabis than to coke. For a small child, not feeling loved means being nothing, not existing, being of no value. Tragically, children come to identify with this self-image and less offer a different experience. Despite the more mature layers that are superimposed over the course of one's life, at core, this still remains a feeling of nothingness... contemptible even to oneself.
