The Origins of the Caste System in India
Romila Thapar suggests that the caste system under the Moria was not as rigid as it would become in later periods, since caste is strongly tied to Hindu teachings. The negotiated treaty between the Moria and the Saluchids would be the beginning of a strong diplomatic relationship between the Hellenistic kings and the Morian emperors afterwards. It would foster some of the highest levels of exchange and interaction between the worlds of India and the Yona or Yawanas which became the standard Sanskrit term used to refer to Greeks.
