The Origins of Floating Poos

Research on this question actually started about half a century ago in the early 1970s. A medical student called Bill Duann in Minnesota was just chatting one day to his supervisor, a gastroenterologist called Michael Levitt. And he told him that his poos always floated in toilet water. Now at that time apparently it was assumed that if you had floating poos, it was because you had some kind of disorder that meant you couldn't absorb fat properly. It didn't really fit. So they tested his poos? Yes. They put them in a pressurized flask and forced all the gas out. This proved that it must be the gas in his poo's that was causing them
