The Disappearing General

Valzavala is a Chilean student living in Maine with her aunt. Valzavala says the word "disappear" terrifies her and she doesn't want to write it down. The general who has taken over Chile no longer appears without his black cape or sunglasses. Celeste's friends have gone too, so this reminds her of what happened when people would just disappear.
