Second century Christianity comes along in a very unsophisticated attempt to add some apologetic fabrication to the first century gospels. The only reason it took heart is because it actually happened. It just doesn't make sense. We have to give the ancient community a little bit more credit. These were sophisticated people. They weren't going to follow, as Peter said, cleverly devised fables. This book is kind of like a video game. It starts easy, then it gets normal, and then it gets hard.
