New Zealand has been caught up in a frenzy of flag waving, as the nation considers whether to replace the Union Jack with a silver fern. New Zealanders had their own version of this tussle over a flag several years ago when they had a very elaborate process of contemplating changing their flag. After a long drawn out process with lots of designs, voters in the end rejected switching to a new flag in a referendum in 2016. Several months and $17 million later, it looks like New Zealand is going to keep its flag. More than half of voters want to stick with their current one.
