"We had about a thousand people and we charged their parents $21 a semester to have a college card so that we had a fee," he says. "It was only making, you know, $21,000 every three months and no money in the summer." He tried selling his business idea to MasterCard but they were too busy launching debit cards of their own at the time. After graduating from high school with all his tuition paid for by loans, he worked four or five jobs before finding work as a computer science professor.
