Today's episode is based on a paper by two professors who studied how the labor market adjusted to the automation of telephone operation in the early 1900s. This was a huge shock for young women who made up most of the operators at the time. Who were these women? What did they do? How did they cope? And what can they teach us about the future of work? Stay tuned and find out.

It's the thrilling conclusion to our three-part series on AI — the world premiere of the first episode of Planet Money written by AI.
