The private equity fund cools money from super rich investors and uses them to buy up companies. They charge those investors huge fees with the promise that we're going to get you amazing gains. It's extractive, right? So in journalism, for example, why has private equity bought up so many local newspapers? In large part because local newspapers have incredibly valuable real estate often in the center of a city.
