The Importance of Script Editor
Apple's script editor is a good tool for making Apple scripts, but there's also a very popular one out there called script debugger. I like to be able to explain to people how to do things with it. It's easy to get tongue tag on this stuff. The thing about Apple script is learning those libraries for those apps you use. But if you know your stuff, absolutely script debugging is the way to go.
