The Red Pill and the Vampire Problem
I think that Trump in some ways was a vamp, created a vampire problem for the GOP where once you do and say terrible things, it's very difficult to go back. One of my big problems with punditry is they treat various demographics as if they are static and eternal groupings. When in fact, like if you look at the data on generations, attitudes change over time. So what an evangelical believed in 1960 is gonna be different than what an evangelical belief in 1965 and in 1970.
