Artificial sweeteners are toxic to the healthy bacteria in your gut. Have you ever tried kombucha instead of a diet coke? Because I used to be an artificial sweetener addict. You want the good bacteria. My body doesn't have enough of those guys. We do know that people who have more poor eating habits, if we actually look at the bacteria in their gut, they're totally different from people who aren't eating.
