The Buddha's Three Methods in Awakening Unwholesome States

The Buddha suggests three ways to let go of unwholesome states. The first is to use its opposite, Hiri and Ota-pa, or reflecting on the wise. A second way is to deliberately divert our attention away from what we're thinking about. And a third method is to focus on something that doesn't seem like it can be seen by others.
