Is Gerard Ambivalent to the Most Extremes on Both Sides?
Gerard is not only ambivalent, he's ambivalent to the most extremes on both sides. He thinks that his views on capitalism are fundamentally an extension of war. But much like Virgil, who can stick with Dante for all three parts of the Divine Comedy, Gerard really has nothing really positive to offer that can get you to have it. Literally, he thinks the kingdom of heaven cannot be brought.
