The Trial of Rose Verez
Rose Verez was convicted of murdering her neighbor in 1944. The jury took her blank demeanor as evidence of her cold-blooded nature. Rose didn't speak much English, and the court never provided a translator. Lawyer Aileen Klutz re-interviewed every single person who testified. On the basis of perjury and false accusation he threw out Rose's conviction.
