Modernist Utopias

In Our Time

CHAPTER

Aldous Huxley's Brave New World

Huxley had visited America Hollywood in the 1920s. In some ways what he's giving us is obviously his version of modern America, but that might take us back to the whole history of utopias from the kind of 16th century onwards. He does talk about the kind of dystopia of the good time, capital G, capital T and that's partly what we're getting, I think, in Brave New World. It now seems to me that Aldous Huxley was much more prescient than George Orwell.
