What Policymakers Are Playing at the State and Local Level?
Sally Kohn: It seems like this is a problem that's overwhelmingly at the state and local level. Big question, of course, which policymakers at the federal level, there's some role to be played mostly at a macroeconomic level. But I do think that there are things that can be done at the federallevel as well. She says tariffs have increased the costs of a wide variety of construction materials such as steel sinks and cabinets; depreciation schedules require developers to write off construction costs for new apartments over decades.
