The Big Leaf
When Kip had spied that rocky outcropping through the big leaf, he'd imagined what it would feel like to stand on it. He'd imagined feeling aloft, enormous. But that wasn't it. Out in the distance, there were more mountains. They appeared in layers, all in shades of purple, colored by the sunset. It looked as though they were painted against the sky; but Kip knew they were real. His eyes become misty as he looks out from the summit.
