I grew up in the depression. We ate a lot of macaronian cheese. I never even heard of a steak, i don't think. Until i got to college, we had very little meat in the house. My parents certainly never told us that we were poor. And when those poor, out of work men would come to the door selling shoe laces and pins and needles,. my mother's instructions to us were, don't buy anything from them. Give them a dime out of the tithe box. Well, the dime was more than they would have made on the pins and needles. This was just one of the ways in which my parents were saving my life for yours
